A Sabbath walk near Old Windsor

Here is something David wrote. First he makes a statement, asks questions and then gives answers.

‘ In the LORD I put my trust.

How can you tell my true self and inner consciousness to fly like a bird looking for safety in a mountain? Because the wicked are getting their weapons ready so that they can shoot at the heart of the upright/God- fearing /righteous person.

If the foundation is destroyed what can the upright do?

Answer

The LORD is in His Holy temple,

The LORD’S throne is in heaven.

His eyes see.

His eyelids try the humanity of people on earth.’

Eyelids? This signifies God’s intense scrutinising, and meticulous examination of human actions, motives, and character. The poetic imagery suggests God squints/narrows His gaze to inspect, refine and judge, proving His ability to be everywhere and sovereign oversight of both the righteous and the wicked.

‘The Lord tries the righteous but the wicked and those people who love violence God’s soul hates…’

David then places God’s punishment on the wicked.

This is all in Psalm 11: 1-5

Where are you walking, you may ask. Along the Thames.

A walk with much chatter and thought. It is good to be outside and together again after three or so months. A walk from here to there and back again with a gentle full Thames beside us.

Here are six photographs of the afternoon spent in Old Windsor on a path near the Thames.

Yes, look at the mud but we are out walking together again!

Reflections in grey-green from fluorescent yellow-green new leaves. The weeping willow tree and the white blossom competing for reflection space. The Thames calm and quiet under a grey sky today.

Then the sound of hooting , unexpected in the afternoon. A bird in a cage looking at us looking at its river.

The blossom is falling fast our temperatures have dropped from warm 17 to 10 and feeling much colder. Grey paving stones collect the festival of petals as tires press tar.

The Parish Church of St.Peter and St. Andrew Old Windsor is where our walk ends. A peaceful and ancient space with a majestic Sequoia tree.

A pleasure to be here again.

And here is a thought from Joseph Wirthlin:

‘ To me integrity means always doing what is right and good regardless of the immediate consequences. It means being righteous from the very depth of our soul, not only in our actions but, more importantly, in our thoughts and in our hearts.’

Take care,

Sandy 🙂
