Plasencia,Cáceres and Mérida

Religion

God speaking: ‘ Because you have placed your loyalty/affection/commitment in Me, and because you have known My name I will answer you when you call Me, I will be with you, I will save you from trouble… I will show you My salvation.’ Psalm 91: 14,15,16

Travel
From San Sabastián to Plasencia is 581km/ 350 miles, from Plasencia to Cáceres is 83 km/ 52 miles and from Cáceres to Mérida is 67km /45 miles and so we travelled.
When I greet someone, sometimes it’s warm with a feeling of what can we do for each other, usually we have similar interests. Then there is also a time when you see a closed or ‘ I am looking past you at someone else’ greeting. Then there is the type that you need more time for because the greeting is just the beginning of finding out.
Well, these three places were like that. In this post of travel, there will be three photographs from each with an explanation of where we parked Bugzy and what we felt was the ‘ greeting’. Each place is well covered in google or AI or travel posts if you would like more of any of them because they are all far more than a greeting.
Plasencia
A city in Western Spain with Medieval walls an old quarter,13th Century Cathedral, and a new Cathedral began in the 15th century. We were parked in an orderly vast carpark. A glass sided lift took one to a walk way and useful shops ( self sevice laudry and supermarket )the next moving pavement went to an outdoor escalator, and you felt at the top of the town. Here are the three photographs:

There were 3 or 4 of these wall paintings on the stilt legs holding the walk way. Each featured different birds. A special welcome to those who parked to use the town.

ParqueDe La Isle. It was evening when we arrived and these autumnal trees with grey heavy clouds exploded the orange of autumn..

Medival walls with a statue of Alfanso the Great looking into the gate seated on an eager horse would complete a 360 picture.

Cáceres

Spains most grand Renaissace city, late 15th to 16th century. It became Spain’s first listed heritage city in 1949.

A courtyard…

A street…

Museums and churches all closed on a Monday. We didn’t park to sleep in this town.

Merida

A Roman city under the name Emirita Augusta. It came about to settle vetrans of Augustus. It served as a capital twice and is filled with treasure, with two Roman amphitheaters.

Our paid for car park was opposite a fairground which through the morning mist turned into a large, bustling market. I bought a bunch of status and a jumper with many colours. A fun place to wake up next to after a quiet night.

My choice of three photographs:

Yes, all of a sudden look down a street and there is a Roman temple to Diana and…

A Roman arch!

Then into the museum and I have chosen these:

Roman glass: look at a bijou, crafted, delicate, elegant, fragile yet whole glass,at a Roman time hand held, intelligently made jug. A collection of them!

Oh there was so much more!

And a photograph to say farewell has to be from Merida.

The Guadiana River crossed by the historic Roman bridge belonging to Mérida founded in 25BC.

A taster of three cities with a few thoughts about taste.

‘ I have the simplest tastes. I am always satisfied with the best.’

Oscar Wilde

‘ We write to taste life twice: in the moment and in retrospection.’

Anais Nin

‘ Something opens our wings. Something makes boredom and hurt disappear. Someone fills the cup in front of us. We taste only sacredness.’

Rumi

Take care we are travelling on.

Sandy 🙂
