Wisley October 2025

This is part 1 of a visit to the RHS Wisley gardens in the last weeks of October.

We will look at three views from the Bowes-Lyon Rose Garden. This garden provides a stunning mix of colour and scent with 4,000 rose plants and with autumn here we still notice the roses in each photograph. Today the trees add their autumnal colours but not for long with all the wind and rain. Our visit yesterday was windless and no rain. A quiet hour of enjoyment before night came.

Burnt orange, yellow and then green with one perfect pink rose.
An autumn rose.
Another peach in colour with bleached tall grasses and a tree with mostly twigs and a few yellow leaves.
Single lemon roses with flecks of yellow amongst the green leaves and bright green grass.

A beautiful autumn garden with roses at the centre.

And then there is this rose in large numbers Rosa Carpet White Noaschnee. It has the cup symbol meaning it will thrive. Let us look at this characterful rose.

Then as we leave I see a group of rose shrubs for sale. The name intrigues and I wonder which to choose. Easy, really as there is only one with a rose on it.

‘Catherine’s Rose
Mid- to dark coral-pink
colour
Rich perfume with hints of Turkish Delight and Mango.
Clusters of up to 15blooms,
each flower measuring between 8-12cm.
Will grow to about 1.2m tall by 90cm wide.
Will thrive in mixed border, as a hedge, large container or in a specific rose bed.’
(Wording on the container)

How lovely it was to see. Our Princess Catherine Rose. Another surprise was waiting. ” Please keep the receipt carefully. The plant is guaranteed for five years”. “Really” was my reply then ” How amazing!”  So today this rose will be part of our garden in a large container and it will be for Shelly my sister in Africa. Why?

It is Autumn here
The colours rich from ground to sky
It is spring where Shelly is
The zebra, kudu, snakes and baboons are so much a part of her everything
Our different lives in different places
BUT
Our love for each other continues strong
At 66 and 69 and a half!
Happy Birthday dearest sister.
There are no roses in our garden this year so Wisley's and our dear Princess Kate's will be for you.
Love Sandy xx

‘ Every day is a gift from God. There is no guarantee of tomorrow, so that tells me to see the good in this day to make the most of it.’

Joel Osteen

And I will end this post for Shelly and whoever reads this:

The LORD speaking:

‘ The LORD bless you and keep you. The LORD make his face shine upon you, and be gracious to you: The LORD look at you in your eyes, and give you peace.’

Numbers 6: 24-26.

Take care,

Sandy  🙂

  1. Aw, thank you! That poem for me is so lovely! Beautiful! So blessed you’re my sister. (Can’t believe we’re so old. When did that happen?)
