Paul speaking: ‘ Love works no ill to their neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.’
Romans 13:10
We have three rose plants in containers. They are there to remember Mum Dorothy, and next to her rose is Dad Brian’s, our parents from Yorkshire, and then on the side of our house an unexpectedly long-lived rose, given by a colleague of mine maybe 20 years ago.
This post looks at their roses as they are in August 2025 and between the photographs I have placed the answers to a question I asked AI.
Mum Dorothy’s rose is in bud. There are four buds on the plant this morning.

‘What are some sayings
about the
10 commandments?’
The first answer was the function of the Ten Commandments:
moral guide
a mirror to reveal human sinfulness
a pathway to understanding God’s will and a need for His grace through Jesus Christ.
Our second rose shrub.
Dad Brian’s rose shrub has three roses at three stages. They have a good scent.

‘ The Ten Commandments
are not a ladder to get to God,
but
a mirror to show us how much we need Him.’
Our third rose from my colleague is in three stages on this August morning. It starts yellow and slowly goes to lemon and then white.

making it possible to obey and fulfil the spiritual intent of the law,
which is love. AI.
And then there was this that I have to think about:
‘ They are the foundation of right and wrong and you cannot break the Ten Commandments – either they break you or you break upon them.’
And looking at the texts that follow from the one we started with in Romans 13 Paul continues speaking:
‘ And knowing the time, that now is high time to wake up out of sleep: for now our salvation is nearer than before…cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. Let us walk honestly… put on the Lord Jesus Christ and provide no place for lust.’
Take care,
Sandy 🙂
Beautiful rosebuds ❤️
Thank you, Donna. I am pleased that we have them. I started watering them more consistently when we returned.
Lovely photos and thoughts, Sandy, thank you!
Thank you for your kind comment.
