The August ‘Bluebell woods’

Jesus speaking: ‘ It is said love your neighbour and hate your enemy.’

Yes, I agree. That is me.

Jesus speaking: ‘ But Sandy, this is what I want you to do.

Love your enemies!

Bless them that curse you!

Do good things for them that hate you!

Pray for those who say bad things about you…

and persecute you!!!’

I can’t do all that! It isn’t natural, normal, or usual.

So what can You, an all-powerful God do about it? I need help.

I haven’t solved this for myself because it isn’t a self-job. I have started studying how Jesus treated the Pharisees. Do you think that will help?

At the moment it is easier to go for a walk in the August Bluebell woods than the above.

Are there bluebells in August? Yes and no. They aren’t blue but under the warm earth, their bulbs lie waiting for another spring. What if spring doesn’t come, will they still wait? I suppose they will. How long can they wait?

Let us look at the woods that I photographed when their extravagant, generous simplicity of blue was easy to see.

It is already warm
between 9 am and 10 am.
There are patches, blotches, and puddles of sun.
Yes, the sun is watery in its flow between the branches.
It is a hotter sun that leaks and eats into your skin.

The ferns lie flat, last year’s leaves are crisp on the ground and the earth is dry.

The woodland floor in one area is well cleared with a few stray bramble branches.
This is where the spring sun lit up the blue of the bells.

Then look out from the woods an oak tree is in the centre of a field of stubble. Sun comes through in white brightness from the outside in.

We leave the woods and a mass of fluffy seed heads greet us. Warm and dry in the sun.

An August visit to where spring made blue but now waits again for that short period of blue again!

Then here are some quotes with heat :

‘ Truth often suffers more by the heat of its defence than the arguments of its opposers.’

William Penn

‘ One cool judgment is worth a thousand hasty counsels. The thing to do is to supply light not heat.’

Woodrow Wilson

‘ I’ve never gotten into a heated argument with people. Heat … reason.’ (put a word of your choice in the )

Lorne Green

It is cooler than expected today.

Take care,

Sandy 🙂

  1. The beautiful bluebell woods certainly look different in this heat! England is desperate for some good rains for sure
