A goblet of Calendulas and fruit.

Does the following conversation have goblet words?

Nicodemus speaking: ‘We know you are a teacher from God because no one does miracles like you except God.’

Jesus answered:’ Truly, I am telling you now, except a person is born again, they cannot see the kingdom of God.’

Nicodemus: ‘ How do I go back into my mother’s womb?’

Jesus answered: ‘ Unless a person is born of water and the Spirit, they cannot enter into the kingdom of God… and no person has ascended up to heaven, but they that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven.’

This conversation is interesting to read. These verses have been put into Sandy’s understanding. An extract from John 3:3 onwards.

The garden before 9 am provided a fine sun-splashed view of fruit. While yesterday evening I picked a bunch of Calendulas knowing that today was going to be hot and the more one picks the more one has.

So I put the Calendulas in a goblet. I was then fascinated by the word goblet. First a definition and then something I didn’t know.

A goblet has a round bowl at the top and a long thin stem in the middle with a wide base. Then a goblet word, what is that?

Burton Watson says that ‘goblet words’ are words that adapt to and follow along with the fluctuating nature of the world and thus achieve a state of harmony.

Then there is this definition. ‘ In essence, ‘goblet words’ are a literary and philosophical device that uses language to challenge, provoke,  and ultimately lead the reader towards deeper understanding beyond the surface meaning of the words themselves.’ AI. I think born again was being used in this way. What do you think?

I will try and paint this sometime. The yellow with the orange is joyful. I need that!

A goblet of Calendulas.

‘ Art is a fruit that grows in a person, like a fruit on a plant, or a child in its mother’s womb.’

Jean Arp 1886-1966 German-French sculptor, painter and poet. If you would like to see what I enjoyed watching press on his name.

Take care,

Sandy 🙂

Ps

Here are a few more thoughts with fruit by three different people: Abraham Joshua Heschel, Joseph Campbell, and James Allen.

‘Self-respect is the fruit of discipline, the sense of dignity grows with the ability to say no to oneself.’

‘ Your life is the fruit of your own doing. You have no one to blame but yourself.’

‘Good thoughts bear good fruit, bad thoughts bear bad fruit.’

  1. Beautiful colours in a goblet! Your fruit trees will have a good harvest! We found the plums especially good and abundant this year
