Jesus praying: ‘ Our Father who lives in heaven hallowed be Your name.’
We will first see the mountain tops as we travel the Falzarego pass which is between Agarda and Cortina and then experience a little of Cortina.
Cortina is a Dolomiti super ski area encompassing the Falzarego pass with its runs. Here are four photographs that give an idea of how far and how close we can be to the mountains.

In the next set of pictures, I wanted to emphasise the mountains, no matter how dwarfed by a building I wanted them to be visible. The town is counting down to hosting the 2026 Winter Olympics.

Italy’s most expensive ski resort for properties.
I also took the opportunity to walk into the ‘ Mario Rimoldi Modern Art Museum.’ My lack of Italian / German did not prevent me from feeling warmly welcomed by a young lady related to one of the artists. It was lovely to experience her enthusiasm for these works of art.
The exhibition was well worth it. I particularly liked to see how the mountains carried so much of their dignity and beauty.
This was written on a notice board going up the stairs to where we viewed photographs and paintings of the mountains.
‘ The picture of the mountains presented through the grapevine of social media and by the entertainment channels is a powerful lure that affects everyone without making it sufficiently clear that the mountains remain an extreme dangerous and unpredictable environment (…) if the majesty of a peak does not stir the healthy respect that is conducive to humility, to a readiness to listen to those who are more expert than we are, to patience and even to sensible retreat – when conditions are not favourable- then we can learn nothing from the mountain even by ascending 3,000m.’

In the town and the surrounding area, there was work going on in preparation for the Olympics but it did not detract from the beauty of the mountain tops so very close.

The Dolomites are an experience I hope will help Roy and me become more appreciative of our world, the Earth.
‘Appreciation is a wonderful thing: it makes what is excellent in others belong to us as well.’ Voltaire
‘Appreciation is the highest form of prayer for it acknowledges the presence of good wherever you shine the light of your thankful thoughts. ‘ Alan Cohen
And something different:
‘Love is not tolerance. It is not just distant appreciation. It’s a warm sense of, I am enjoying the fact that you are you.’
N.T. Wright
Take care,
Sandy 🙂
Lovely post on appreciation. And I appreciate the fact that you’re my sister🥰
