Moses wrote about Noah: ‘ Noah was in his 600th year on the 17th day of the second month and this is what happened: all the fountains of the deep broke up and the heavens opened with rain! It rained 40 days and 40 nights. The ark, the boat Noah built, was lifted by the water high above the earth. All the high hills and mountains were covered by at least 15 Cubits and upwards. All flesh and every living substance were destroyed.
The waters were dominant for 150 days. The ark then rested on the Mountains of Ararat on the 17th day of the 7th month. ‘ ( Sandy’s summary of this whole part)
This account has much before answering the ‘why?’ It also has much after answering ‘what happened next?’ Genesis 6: 5-22 Genesis 7,8,9.
But look at Matthew 24:37 and a repetition of this in Luke 17: 26. The ‘why? ‘ is alluded to similarly.
Jesus speaking: ‘ As the wickedness was at the time of Noah so the wickedness will be at the time of the coming of Me/( the Son of Man.)

The Dolomites with the nickname ‘Pale Mountains’ are mainly fossilised coral reefs, carbonate rock/ dolomite. The mineral is known for its brittleness with a tendency to form debris streams and famous ‘rocky’ peaks caused by erosion. Reinhold Messner once said ‘ Each mountain in the Dolomites is like a piece of art.’
Our first walk was from above Carezze and then below the town to the lake. These walks certainly made me agree with the above quote.
The tear marks of the pale mountains
Move one to look more carefully
Do they come from the dark greys or the pinks
Where do they stop?
Why are they so dry?
Alone in their choice of direction
Natural and there.
I then painted a little and was held in awe
Their tops or tips
So fine
How could one make an edge like that?

It bothered me.
Here is a conversation I had with an Italian lady a little younger than me. She was travelling with elderly parents and teenage children. I understood her position.
‘ These Dolomites are too touristy! My father asks to come he loves their looks. For me I go where it is quiet. My husband was wanting to camp on ice on Mount Blanc but it was just a pool of water! I feel cross.’
I sympathise with her as we look down at the blue of the lake with the potential to hold far more than it has got. Where has all the snow gone? That night it snowed after the rain that continued through most of the night. A little snow in July.

A little snow in July.
There are buses from place to place and plenty of hiking trails. We took a few very easy ones.
It was a beautiful time at Carezze. A contrast in temperature from Lake Como.

Take care,
Sandy 🙂
Ps
A note by the author, Sandy: while I don’t look for evidence to prove my belief/ faith in God I interpret what I see by my belief/ faith. My firm belief in the Bible makes my faith in God stronger as I see His powerful act of creation in six literal days and His ability to destroy through the flood. I also draw from His love in a covenant of a rainbow a sign not to destroy the earth with water again and His gift through Jesus’ death for our sins to save us for His soon return.
Those dolomites are certainly magnificent Sandy! Good job painting it too👏
Thank you. You are kind! 🥰
