We go in relative comfort with ah and squeals from children as we fall a little and dip when we reach pillons.
The first recorded ascent of Mont Blanc’s 4,806m, the 11th most prominent mountain in the world, was done by Jacques Balmat and Dr Michael Paccard. The first woman to stand on the summit was Marie Paradis in 1808.
We will travel to where the hang gliders leave the side of the mountain and see the Alpine chough.


The weather is perfect for the
hang gliders,
and the tourists are providing bits of food for the Alpine Chough.
The bird has glossy black plumage, a short yellow bill, and red legs. They are monogamous, sharing high partner fidelity are non – colonial but several pairs may nest close to each other. Their young are fed by both partners, and because of the high altitude, the embryos have haemoglobin with a genetically high affinity for oxygen.
Down in the town of Chamonix trade is brisk as it is a public holiday with the River Arve rushing through the centre, milky green from a suspension of ground rock particles. It will later be joined by the Giffre, which we cycled along and both then empty into Lake Geneva / Lake Léman. The lake with beautiful Yvoire on its shores.

Parking is easy near the lift, but we go on to Agentiére where there is free parking for the night.


As the sun went, the snow captured more attention and became more
lively in contrast to the forests losing detail.
Notice too that the blue mug has a few daisies opening still, but others have stayed with petals back. I now know it is Sea Calamine / Sea Mayweed , Tripleurospermum maritimum, which was growing in the sands of Calais.
