Wisley garden scenes

God took man and put him in a garden. (15) Then God made the animals from the ground brought them to Adam to see what he would name them and he named them all(19)…and there was no one for him(20)…and God made woman from the ground with a rib from Adam(21,22,23…)

Genesis 2: 15-23 Sandy’s summary. I am reading an interesting book that goes back to this time and before this time ‘ Patriarchs and Prophets’ by Ellen G. White.

Where is the box hedge?

Box blight and box tree caterpillar destroyed a lot of box hedging from 2015, and this area of the garden needed to have replacement planting. Wisley has found that Barberis, Lonicera, and Padocarpus perform well. While the other plants you see are still more of an experiment.

Looking down towards the large glass house,
the plants are thriving with
April growth.
If you press on the photograph, the plant in the foreground has well shaped and shaded leaves.
Most trees are in new leaf, while a few  are still in winter stark.
Press on the photograph to see the tree in the centre.

The azaleas in bright pink and red are here and there with the distinctive blue of Camassia fully in bloom. There are large areas of grass planted with Camassia, and I had wondered what it was since it seemed too sturdy for bluebells when in leaf only.

Blue from rosemary and orange from the tulips, then far away a bright pink azalea in bloom.

I started by giving the title of a book I am reading, and here are three quotes that led me to think  about a book I haven’t read and one from childhood I would like to reread.

‘ Watching something grow is good for morale. It helps us believe in life.’

Myron S. Kaufmann ( 1921-2010) His popular novel was ‘ Remember me to God’.

‘ If you look the right way, you can see that the whole world is a garden.’

Frances Hodgson Burnett (1849 – 1924). Her book ‘ The Secret Garden ‘is one I would like to reread after listening to a pleasant chat about it. The Comfort Book Club/ The Secret Garden on YouTube.

And then there is this prediction:

‘ The greatest fine art of the future will be the making of a comfortable living from a small piece of land.’

Abraham Lincoln.

Take care,

Sandy 🙂

Camassia.
