Not Autumn’s colours

Religion

Isaiah 59:1, 19

Look, the LORD’S hand is not shortened, that it can’t reach and save, neither is He deaf that He can’t hear. …the many verses say what He can save us from…then there is this thought… When the enemy comes like a flood, I ( God) will lift up a standard against him.’

This chapter is a sincere plea to forsake sin. It is an interesting read.

Plants and quotes

Three plants making our garden colourful are in my post today.  Their leaves oval, palm, and spear.

Not autumn shades but still for a while summer’s maroon in purple-red and green.

What do I see in a maroon leaf?

A brownish crimson colour that can symbolise sophistication, wisdom, passion, and luxury.

OR

Anthocyanin pigment absorbing blue, blue-green light so that the light reflected by the leaves containing anthocyanins appears red.

So what is anthocyanin?

Is this the answer?

In the presence of bright light, the sugars trapped in the leaves form the red pigment anthocyanin. It is water-soluable and give fruit, flowers, and vegetables their red-purple-blue colour.

It is also common in trees but rare in cereal crops.

“Possession of the pure synthetic specimens of the anthocyanins enabled my wife and me to devise quick tests for these colouring matters which can be used with the material from a few flower petals.”

Robert Robinson 1886 – 1975 British organic chemist and Nobel Laureate recognised in 1947 for his research on plant dye, anthocyanins, and alkaloids. He also discovered the molecular structure of morphine, penicillin, and strychnine. A well-known chemist. You can hear more if you  press on Robert Robsinson it sounds like a ‘robotic voice’.😉

I’m going to travel with this ” used as a function word to make negative a group of words or a word”  not.

‘Risk comes from not knowing what you are doing.’

Warren Buffett ( American business man.)

‘ Waiting is painful. Forgetting is painful. But not knowing which to do is the worst kind of suffering.’

Paulo Coelho ( Brazilian lyricist and novelist).

The vase is seen in afternoon light. Notice the backs of the red robbin leaves matt with pink rather than shiny maroon.

One last thought:

‘ The friend who can be silent with us in a moment of despair or confusion, who can stay with us in an hour of grief and bereavement who can tolerate

not

knowing

healing

curing

that is a friend who cares.

Henri Nouwen (Dutch Catholic priest, professor, writer, theologian. 1932-1996)

Take care,

Sandy🙂
