Trondheim Norway

Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.

Proverbs 23: 23

‘A city on the Trondheim Fjord, in Central Norway.’

A city in sunshine
People in the city
One on the old town bridge
Two in the sun
Four outside  Nidaras Cathedral
A crowd in a vast open square with seagulls competing for food
Trondheim is a city of people enjoying the sun.
An exhibition of people on canvases
An artist who lived loving the movement of people in their own domains.
Else Hagen, who lived from 1914 to 2010, has left a legacy of form, shape, and colour.
The exhibition is traveling Now in the Trondheim Kunstmuseum.

First some public spaces in Trondheim

Let us look at a few of Else Hagen ‘s paintings on the walls.

I particularly like how she has a painting of girls playing hopscotch and calls it paradise. The 1960’s was a time when women stayed at home here in Norway and she conveys the frustrations of house work and caring for young children.  People and being around people inspired her work.

This is what Else Hagen said about her teachers: ” Axel Eevold taught me to experience colour. Jean Heiberg taught us to draw, and then I became George Jacobsen’s student for three years. He taught us the importance of controlling the visual experience intellectually, you could say that he showed us the difference between optical and logical imagery. Now I’m beginning to understand something of the essence of art. I learned to respect the picture surface and space, and understood that the picture’s own life is more important than that of the subject.”

I think I must both walk among people and be among people. At the same time, I have a boundless need to be alone.

Back outside the streets are lively and colourful.

Trondheim in June.

We travelled on today through a landscape more open with vast farmlands…

A beautiful country.

Here are a few sayings with people.

In everyone’s life at some time, our inner fire goes out. It then bursts into flame by an encounter with another human being. We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner flame.

Eventually all things fall into place. Until then, laugh at the confusion, live for the moments, and know everything happens for a reason.

We are happy you were able share this with us.

  1. Norway looks like an amazing place to live. A not cold maybe, but you also seldom hear them getting involved in political issues etc.
I remember Aunty Esther telling us about how she loved Norway. Remember how she and Uncle Tom used to go travelling and we thought them very rich and adventurous😁
