Woodbridge and Harwich

And I / God will give power to my two witnesses (The Old and New Testament), and they will prophesy a thousand and three score days, clothed in sackcloth. Revelations 11:3

(I have appropriated thee each day for a year…Ezekiel 4:6)

From 538 AD to 1798 AD the Bible was attacked, and people forbidden to read it.

Then, there was the French revolution  with reason set to replace religion.

And after three days and an half thr Spirit of life from God entered into them (the Old Testament and the New Testament) and they stood upright on their feet: and great fear fell on them that saw them. Revelations 11 : 11

The foreign Bible societies were started, and the Bible became one of the most well-known of books.

One of the reasons for the Mayflower, which is believed to have been built in Norwich.

Sandyroybessbugzy are well on the road! It started with:

A hello to friends in Woodbridge and a reminder of how beautiful it is to have an estuary so close to a home.

Then goodbye to the UK over the North Sea to the Hoek of Holland, a trip we did when exploring Greece 2023.

Woodbridge is 8 miles up the river Deben from the sea. We walked from their house a little way then  through a snicket, past an amazing tree, and there was the river Deben. I guess you could say it was a passeggiata we enjoyed in the evening.

Here is what it made me write:

The limbs of a tree…
The leftovers of the sea…
The limbs of a tree,
The leftovers of the sea
A tide gone out

Branches solid and liquid
The beech and the river Deben
Eight miles from its North Sea
The tree mighty in size and years from its seed
Two of different kinds
The solid and liquid
Boats eaten and ducks searching
Mud holding and providing
All on the tidal, Deban

We sail the liquid of the North Sea with three main rivers mixing sweet water with the salt:
Stour
Orwell
Deben
Boats eaten…

The word passeggiata is not a usual word I use, so here is an explanation for me to remember and you if you are not sure. It comes from Italian and is more than an evening stroll. It’s slow paced and unhurried, a time to catch up with your friend, which allows for sitting down to soak up the last of the day’s light. This is what we enjoyed.

Then, with hugs and gifts of baked fig and banana loaves, we left for 3 months, I believe.

Seven hours on the North Sea as calm and quiet as this all day.

I was interested to find out that Harwich was the likely launch point of the Mayflower, which carried English Puritans to North America in 1620. The Virginia Company gave them permission to establish a settlement on the East Coast, roughly between the Chesapeake Bay and the mouth of the Hudson River. The King of England gave them permission to leave the Church of England, ” provided they carried themselves peaceably.”

It is believed that the ship was built in Harwich, and a strong argument was made in 2020 that its importance should not be overshadowed by Plymouth. However, it doesn’t seem to have prevented the limelight falling on Plymouth.

Dan Snow does an interesting talk on The Mayflower 400th Anniversary.

A gate left open along the river Deben reminding me that life on the road is…

a travellers garden… neither here nor there…

I hope you enjoy some time with us as we travel to two main countries we want to explore…

Only the best for you.
