This morning, I unwound a creeping plant from the red and blackcurrant budding stalks.
The name given for this plant is nakedweed . It is strong and twists tightly, growing solid around the base of its support. Its angular shape in the vase is from the shape of the stalk it was on.
Below the fruit bushes, the ground is still thick with heart-shaped green leaves of lesser celandine, and their yellow flowers are here and there. It belongs to the buttercup family while the greater celandine belongs to the poppy family.
I always ask why when I see lesser and greater and I soon travelled with these two words.
An English literary critic and writer by the name of Cyril Connoly CBE (1903-1974) wrote: “Enemies of Promise.”
This book enabled him to combine literary criticism with an autobiographical exploration of why he failed to become the successful fiction writer that he had aspired to be when he was young. Below is the quote that led me to this meeting:
A great writer creates a world of his own, and his readers are proud to live in it. A lesser writer may entice them in for a moment, but soon, he will watch them filing out.

The worst mistake anyone can make is to perceive anyone else as lesser. The deeper you look into the souls – and writing is primarily an exercise doing just that – the clearer people’s inherent dignity becomes.

I guess we always need to ask why we are reading something. I assume we stop when our compassion and interest run out.
Back to the vase with snakehead flowers. The whole plant is poisonous, containing toxic alkaloids such as imperialin. These were bent over by the wind and rain and seem to be a smaller variety.
Then, some encouragement from Robin Sharman, an author and speaker who is of India origin and a Canadian.
Remember, it is not the snake bite that kills, but the venom that circulates afterwards that is fatal. Do not let the snake bite of another person release any venom inside you. You control its entry, and you are responsible for every thought in your mind.

Ah, that wasn’t clear. The two yellow and two “purple- red ” are all small snakeheads said to be poisonous. The nakedweed is the wavy stalk with leaves opposite each other. Thank you for looking so carefully. Have a blessed Easter.
