Psalm 15 : 1-5 (An awful lot in a short Psalm  )
Uckfield railway station.
Roy is a service driver in his retirement, and he has delivered the car.
It’s time to leave a town with many charity shops.

Uckfield is in East Sussex on the river Uck. It developed at the bridging point on the river and along the High Street.

It was after three, when we arrived and the town had a rush of teenagers in uniform, leaving school for home. The street is  notable for charity shops.

Here are those I saw walking in the High Street and those I forget I hope you pardon!

The Trussell Trust food bank. Friends of Wealden. Uckfield Heritage Chatity Shop. Friends of Sussex Hospices. Hospice in the Weald. Chestnut Tree House. The Kit Wilson Trust. Cancer Research UK. St Peters and St James Hospice Shop. British Heart Foundation. Sense. Raised centre for animal welfare. Age UK.

Apparently, the top four towns for the numbers of  charity shops are Eastbourne 35, Hove 33, Preston 30, Northampton 29.

It seemed only right to buy a vase from one of them, and here it is full of new Red Robin leaves.

A vase with
“Made in Greece Anapale” underneath.

Let’s look more closely at these leaves.

Here are some quotes about new leaves:

New leaves remind us that even in difficult times, there is always a chance for renewal and growth.

New leaves inspire us to keep growing and learning.

Dhoka Quotes

Then there is this warning:

Preoccupied with a single leaf, you won’t see the tree. Preoccupied with a single tree, you’ll miss the forest.

Takuan Soho 1573 -1645 Japanese Buddhist prelate.
As the sun set over East Sussex and Kent, the train stopped at stations with interesting names.
Places I would like to visit at other times.

Here are a few in station order:

Uckfield

Buxted – important for the Wealdon  Iron industry.

Crowborough – ‘Croh’ means saffron, a goldenyellow colour. Gorse grows thickly in the Crowborough Beacon area.

Eridge – A good place to start a country walk. The Eridge circular.

Ashurst (Kent)

Cowden – Part of the Wealden Iron Country and had its own blast furnace from 1573.

Hever – Famous for Hever Castle, the childhood home of Anne Boleyn, second wife to HenryVIII.

Edenbridge Town –  built on the upper floodplain of the river Medway and takes its name from the tributary the river Eden.

Hurst Green – means open space by the wood.

Oxted – place of Oak first mentioned 862 AD…..

And on we went.

Another day over.

Softly the evening came with the sunset.

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Take care,

Sandy🙂
