I will give thanks to you, Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of your wonderful deeds.
Psalm 9:1
Travel is sometimes an unexpected joy, and I went along as one blogger, put it, ” …for a take a wife to work day” with Roy.
Come with us into the town as the evening draws in. The shops are closing it is time to go home. A steady stream of cars pass through the town. We are warmly dressed except for my hands so I can take these pictures.
The buildings are 17th and 18th – century stone buildings . It appears as Stamford in the Domesday Book of 1086. The name means “stony ford”.

Ah, the book shop.

Here are some compliments paid to this town over the years:
England’s most attractive town.
John Betjeman 1906 -1984
John Betjeman CBE was an English poet , writer, and broadcaster.
He started life as a journalist and ended it as one of the most popular British Laureates from 1972 until his death. He was a founding member of the Victorian Society and helped to save St. Pancreas railway station.
Lincolnshire, the county Stamford is in, boarders with Norfolk. If you would like to hear John Betjeman’s pleasant voice, read one of his poems press on “Norfolk. “
The sun is now up, and as its warmth spreads through the town notice the various architecture.

Here is another admirer of the town:
As fine a market town as may be seen .
Celia Fiennes 1662-1741
Celia Fiennes was an English traveller and writer. She explored England on horseback at a time when travel for its own sake was unusual. Here are her own words expressing why she travelled ” to regain my health by variety and change of aire and exercise.”
Her voice is added to by Nicholas Pevsner 1902 -1983, who said: “As fine a market town as may be seen.” He was a German- British art and architectural historian best known for his 46- volume series of county- by- county guides.

Goodbye to the town and then various stops and changes due to a cracked rail, intruders on the line, etc, so a five hour journey home.
I am sorry I missed two days . We have travelled by train and car but I am pleased to say the country is looking well kept in spite of the storms. Daffidols and snowdrops are out in Lincolnshire. It is a beautiful world.
Sandy 🙂
Beautiful post beautiful pictures 🌹
Warm thanks.
I wish it was time for our daffodils. Our winter’s been mild, but we still have a couple of months to go.
I guess if they come early they go early. Just hope the weather stays right for when they do come. Spring is on its way!
Exploring English towns by car and train must still be faster than horseback 🙃 Wonderful architecture everywhere Love your posts Sandy🍀
Thank you. 😊 Roy is great at finding good places. Stamford is a delightful place. There are good places to eat great food.
What a nice ‘go to work with Roy” adventure, good for you to get out and rebuild your strength and, yes, see the beautiful world! I would love going through tiny towns like this and explore the businesses, this was fun seeing yours!
It is a treat. Roy is the adventurer but I love it. Much better now ,thank you. The towns are still a novelty after 45 years!
My daughter was confirmed last Tuesday with the flu, two days after I was with her and the kids all day. We all thought I was next, but I’ve made it through til now, thankfully without getting it! 🙏
Stay well. Plenty of water and rest a little. So sorry about your daughter. It went deep down into ones chest with an awful cough that made one be sick / vomit.
I should be good, but yes, I’m taking it cautiously. Do they offer a flu prescription that you can take within 48 hours of first symptoms to knock the flu down for faster recovery? There’s one here in the U.S. and she got it the day she woke up feeling like she was hit by a truck. Yesterday she was feeling almost back to normal and returned to work today. She’s a nurse, they cleared her to return. 🤔
Wow! Wonderful! I haven’t asked but that sounds really good.
