I will praise You, Oh Lord, with my whole heart; I will show all your marvellous works.
Psalm 9 : 1
It is hard to believe they were nearly extinct in 1900.
See the Thames flooding!Sandy 🙂 (I loved being so close)
The wet goose world, at my feet!
Goose slurps and beak claps
All are at my feet
See the Thames flooding, they said!
Facts
The Canada Goose:
Usually 5 – 14 lbs in weight.
Unlike other birds, the male doesn’t have distinctive, colourful plumage, so you have to look for a larger broader crown (head) and thicker neck in the male. I don’t know which is sucking in mud with grass in reach of my boots.
These birds stay in the UK enjoying large grass spaces, but those that migrate can travel 1,500 miles in a day! A speed of 40 miles an hour or 70 miles an hour in a strong tail wind. They fly in groups of 30-100 birds. A sight to enjoy.
Two very different thoughts:
Floods are ‘acts of God’, but flood losses are largely acts of man.
Gilbert. F. White 1911-2006 American geographer . Father of flood plain management.
Thank you for seeing the Thames with me the video was taken on Friday.
Time is a kind of river, an irresistible flood sweeping up people and events and carrying them headlong, one after the other, to the great sea of being. ( I wonder what he thought when he said ‘being’? I might not agree with him, but I don’t know!)
Marcus Aurelius 161-180AD Stoic philosopher.
Take care.
Sandy 🙂
I love geese. Thank you for sharing your experience with close up geese. And I love that we can praise the Lord, with our whole heart (and being… Enjoying his handwork and displaying it on video) we can show all his marvellous works. ❤️💜❤️
Ah, it’s a pleasure. Last comment flew with the butterflies.

Ah, I almost forgot about the flooded river when the goose chose to come so close to my feet. Thank you for your words that say things, as they are for us, so well. 🙂
🤗❤️You are welcome
Amazing nature! I love the sound of the geese flying overhead! I wonder how they filter the mud and food at the same time🤨 You had a fantastic close up experience!
I found the answer they have a soft part of the bill that can touch like a child feeling for coins in the sand. They then also have filters. I don’t know how to put the link on to this answer. Great question. The flood was secondary to the ‘oblivious goose’.
Cute poem! Geese can be so entertaining, especially with a flock. Someone’s gotta honk the loudest, you know, lol. Please so you know, they are called Canada Geese, not Canadian. A Canadian birder (even a U.S. birder) will get very angry at you for calling them Canadian. Ha, I had one tell me so, many years back. I learned my lesson. 😉
Oh, good to know! Learnt that right now. Thank you so much Donna. The Canada Geese were memorable to be with.
Happy to keep you straight! So you know, I am in need to be kept straight all the time! 😂🤣
I went and changed it. No problems at all. I find it so much easier if people ‘talk’ to me. On one occasion, I gave up on someone because it seemed like a machine was giving a response, and sometimes it made no sense. So you are great to tell me.🤣
That is what friends are for! 😊
Absolutely!
