Sabbath 5 mile walk at Dorchester Oxford.

Jesus is talking ‘ …the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me and believe that I came from the Father.’

John 16:27 We are so loved.

Just a fence post but look above it in the distance at a ring of trees. Small and far away with clouds spreading out from either side. That will be where we are walking to. Not straight up but through trees and along fields and across the river Thames where Poohsticks is played. We will come walking up behind those trees then on paths through them .

We will see some other things too.

Let’s go.

How light filled and welcoming Dorchester Abbey is. Open for all to see with flowers. Ready for a wedding perhaps.

Floors from different times. An Abbey since medieval times. Then back through the doors down the road through a snicket and there in front of you are allotments providing a lot of hard worked for food.

Standing on the footbridge at Day’s Lock on the Thames looking into the waters where Poohsticks is traditionally played.

Then keep walking up through fields, keep Bess on the lead and then from the top enjoy the view because we will be coming down from where we looked up at the ring of trees.

Can you see the path in the grass. Down quite steeply we will go. Notice the scattered showers, especially the one on the far left. As we reach the cars there is a clap of thunder but there was no rain on our walk today.

Thank you for being with us. I think a group of 16 today.

Sandy 🙂

  1. You’re lucky to have such beautiful places to walk to on a Sabbath afternoon.
I’ll have to look up Poohsticks – sounds like something to do with the books…

    1. Yes, we are very blessed. It is amazing how comparatively few people enjoy walking. I am sorry you didn’t get the link to the story you must be having trouble with the electricity again. Hugs.

    1. Ah, I learned that word from Mum Dorothy in Yorkshire. It was new to me once upon a time too. It was delightful to be outside with so much weather changing all around.Thank you for reading !!!

  2. What a lovely walk! That pumpkin picture made me so happy and that Abbey is just amazing. I went for a walk in our “old” town today it’s mostly Gold Rush stuff (wood and brick). There’s nothing quite that old around here.

    1. Thank you. Each generation adds a little more or subtracts. It is/was the people who made the spaces. Love for God brought about the Abbey I guess, with unfortunately pride and competition too. Things are often mixed!

    2. Ah, thank you for liking our walk. It is all the people over years that make a place. The lives of the Gold Rush people were challenging we have those towns in South Africa too. Each generation adds a bit more.
