Part 2 Willow Herb and Hoary Ragwort

There is that which scatters, and yet increases…

Proverbs 11: 24 ( Sandy has just chosen a few words out of an ‘interesting’ chapter!)

There was a time when thermometers , the ones you put under your tongue, had Mercury in them. Occasionally these would break . I don’t think I bit one but occasionally I may have ‘dropped’ one. It was a moment of ‘ it has happened and I’m really seeing it’. What? The Mercury making minute spheres all over the floor, spreading in all directions. The fun had started. To bring the Mercury’s ‘self attraction’ into play. It soon was a big round, reflective blob on an old envelope . I was pleased! But then I made it happen again, and again…I love Mercury.

The Willow Herb and Hoary Ragwort are changing fast today.

The pink flowers are now long lined rods splitting ever so slowly and once their four arms show white wings then the brown seeds will fly.

There is no gathering, congregating, convening or converging after that. No putting back into the seed pod then.

They are on the road to dispersal, scattering, spreading , diffusion and circulating.

Shame really that they have no inner attraction to each other like Mercury does. I would love to play with them a while. Bring them together using their own ‘liking’ but no, they will fly at the winds fancy anytime soon.

A time of change.
A vase of Willow Herb and Hoary Ragwart all gone to seed.

The vase is near the corner as I photograph, a sheltered space is important to watch this over the next few days. The billions of possible plants that could come from this vase is in the extreme. Here they are! Life in its possible abundance.

It is not if but when they go… I hope I see some go! Or shall I make them? 😜

Here are a couple of thoughts about dispersion and scattering:

Knowledge is not simply another commodity. On the contrary. Knowledge is never used up. It increases by diffusion and grows by dispersion.

Daniel J. Boorstin

Scatter your flowers as you go; you will never go this way again.

Thank you for reading my post. Have a blessed weekend.

  1. Ah, the mercury. As a child, our dentist would give us a little blob of it in a little plastic box that we could open. We handled it all the time AND our fillings had mercury in them. How did we all live through our childhoods?
