Vergina continued

Here are some words that describe a woman: dignity, patience, diligence, generosity, courage. wisdom and devotion. These are not what a woman looks like, but who she is. This is a woman described in Proverbs 31: 10 – 31 Proverbs 31:1-10 is also interesting.

Proverbs 31: 10 – 31 (Just in a few words.)

A few miles from Phillip’s tomb is another museum of artifacts carefully displayed. These are mostly from the tombs but give an idea of how the people lived.

Here I will mostly focus on what they found in relation to women.

Each case shows a different style of jewellery according to the 8th to 9th century BC women’s style of clothing. It appears to go from simple to complex.
Then here is the Queen’s all gold finery.

They also took great pride in how they smelt. A special type of flask, white lekythoi, held oil or perfume as part of their everyday toiletries. They had a preference for Corinthian products with the perfume/oil being as expensive as the container.  There were alabasta containers from Egypt and glass from Phonecia all beautifully crafted. This was 5th century BC.

They then used oil and perfume for their funeral rooms to place next to the deceased these were painted with appropriate scenes.

It was these colours that helped archaeologists realise how well  the murals in the graves were matched to these colours on the jars.

Oil lamps and small pans.
A light in the dark
what would these have lit up?
A night with a sick child.
The joy of a long evening chat.
We will never know. THEN…
Nails.
That thing that clearly held so much together then and now.
All from a site of antiquity.

Women wish to be loved without a why or a wherefore, not because they are pretty, or good, or well- bred, or graceful, or intelligent, but because they are themselves.

You nailed it!
