Monteriggioni Tuscany Italy

God said: ” Look I have given you every herb bearing seed, and every tree with its seed in its fruit on the earth. This is so you will have food.”

Genesis 1:29 Sandy’s understanding.
We should see a tree full of fruit as a gift from God just as if He put it into our hands. EGWhite.
We had been here before.
Roy had lead the walking group on different circular walks in the Sienna area.
We new and liked this place. Monteroggioni dates back to 1213.
It was a fortress and base against the people of Florence.
Today it was different from our first.
The street is awash. The sky heavy.
No fat floating clouds against a blue backdrop.
It was good to go inside.
A fire place set at waist height.
Yellow walls , yellow on salmon pink table coverings.
Colours of the sky .
Warm against the softer tones of the raw stone walls.
A place for food out of the needed rain.
Look at the plate .
A deep bowl in the middle keeping everything hotter longer.
But what is it?
Pumpkin soufflé with licorice in a truffle type source.
Not my usual homely food.
But today is for learning.

“Actually the true gourmet, like the artist, is one of the unhappiest creatures existent. His trouble comes from seldom finding what he constantly seeks. Perfection.”

Ludwig Bermelmans (1898-1962 Austrian-American writer and illustrator of children’s books and adult novels.)
It was then back in the rain through the olive trees to an orderly expensive parking charge. (£7)

This time no big plates of pasta and a side of salad with a park the car how you like. Fifteen years or so changes things!

You may agree with these two ladies.

Life is too short for self- hatred and celery sticks.

I am not a glutton. I am an explorer of food.

Erma Bombeck.

Then there is this warning from a doctor to his famous patient:

“My doctor told me I had to stop throwing intimate dinners for four unless there are three other people.”

Orson Wells.( 1915-1985 An American actor, director, producer who sadly died 2 hours after his last interview. He topped 400lbs at one point.)

Tuscany has been rainy as we drive through but we desperately need this water so no complaints.

I found this for my friends who love baking bread.

” The smell of good bread baking, like the sound of lightly flowing water, is indescribable in its evocation of innocence and delight.” MFK Fisher (American Food Writer)

We have the sound of water and if we walk along the streets early enough we have the smell of bread baking too.

It will be nice to bake some at home though. Thank you for reading this post.

Sandy🙂
