This in and out curving vase was ” a no longer loved ” addition to my collection. It is heavy enough, once filled with water, to hold MahoniaJaponica with its enormous flower heads and a few stems of Winter Jasmine. These flowers are from a gardenI know well and a roadside planting. My plants aren’t blooming yet.With the mahonia in the vase is winter jasmine. A slim deciduous shrub that roots easily when arching branches touch the soil. It was growing near the mahonia on the road side.The leaves of the Mahonia are strikingly large, leathery and dark green. Each leaf is composed of 7 to 15 spiky leaflets. They are so spiky that it is good to use gloves. The lemon-yellow flowers smell like lily of the valley. A sweet, green, light smell. They bring sunshine to winter!Mahonia growing on a roadside. It grows up to 8-10 ft high and 6-9ft wide. It doesn’t require a lot of sun infact it grows well in shade . It loves cool soil with a lot of humus. It is best to plant it in autumn or spring.
