Let Charles Dickens set the scene: ‘It was one of those March (May) days when the sun shines hot and the wind blows cold: when it is summer in the light, and winter in the shade.’

The trial gardens with the publics favourite tulip given a first.

‘At the RHS, we run plant trials to assess the best performing cultivars. We grow different cultivars of plants in the same conditions . We then judge them against the same set of criteria to ensure a fair test.’
Looking at a few individual Iris plants, with more to bloom, they are slowly replacing the tulips in the hill top garden.

An amazing contrast of colours in the colour scheme of four plants, the warmth from orange and red with cold from blue. Our sun and wind are well replicated.

The plants are growing rapidly, and it is interesting to notice the varying supports given some natural and other metal. Each of the scenes shows support.

Today, I wanted to see the peony, which last week looked ready to bloom. They got their name from a Greek myth. The story, in brief, a god of medicine, became jealous of his student’s powers to heal. Zeus, in order to protect the student, turned him into a flower of his name. A peony.
They like well drained soil. Acidic soils favour the red to dark pink while alkaline favours white and softer pink. Sunlight and adequate air circulating are a must, and a big advantage is that rabbits and deer don’t eat peonies.

A peony in the breeze.
A flutter, not a flurry
The petals move
This way, that way
Not disconnected
Not disorientated.
Uniquely in the scene.
If one leaves, others will fly
A flurry of petals on the wind!
Another journey left ahead.

‘ You are loved, as the sons and daughters of God, and we don’t know how we will be: but we know that, when He appears, we will be like Him; for we will see Him as He is.’ 1 John 3:2
Oh RHS Wisley is such a beautiful place! You were so lucky to see the wisteria tunnel too. Wonderful x
Yes, that is the word WONDER
and FULL. Each time we go, more plants fill the beds and call for attention. Thank you dear friend for your comment.
