I kept these bottles for their pleasant shape their contents long used up. The clear clean glass suit the Hellebore.The Hellebore with its downward facing rose-like flower is usually planted in a raised flower bed or on a hillside so you can see them better. The blooms are actually sepals (modified leaves) that protect the real flower and they last for several months.In this rounded bottle the Hellebore is seen in two of its main stages. I chose not to include the bud. There is the fertilisation – ready – bloom and the post- fertization – persistent stage. One of the white flowers and the green looking blooms are at this third stage. This change to green is brought about by the sepals carrying out photosynthesis after fertilisation. Hellebore, with their 5 sepals surrounding a ring of petals modified to hold nectar, bloom in winter and early spring. They have everything to give to a gardener. They are hardy, compact, low maintenance and their flowers provide valuable nectar for early pollinaters. Their blooms nod above evergreen leaves and they are happy to be in partial shade. Put simply, they are gently resilient and kindly humble. The tortoise looks away rather than meet the Hellebore gaze.🙂I took this photo in the light of a grey winter’s day at twilight. Why do I like it? I just do…soft, gentle but really strong. These flowers/sepals exist in a range of pinks, purples, yellows and some types are even speckled / spotted. This is a single white Hellebore form but they can be double and semi-double.
The government of God is not, as Satan would make it appear, founded upon a blind submission, an unreasoning control. It appeals to the intellect and the conscience. “Come now let us reason together ” is the Creator’s invitation to the beings He has made. ( Isaiah 1:18 )….A mere forced submission would prevent all real development of mind or character. It would make man a mere automation. Such is not the purpose of the Creator…. It remains for us whether we wish to be set free from being tied by sin, to share the liberty of sons and daughters of God.
Never heard of a hellebore plant before. Lovely delicate arrangement and glassware. “they are gently resilient and kindly humble” 🥰
