Why is it called the Agean sea?

Here is the story in Greek Mythology: Aegeus, king of Athens had a son Theseus . They agreed that Theseus would hoist a white flag on his ship if he was alive . Theseus returning to Athens after his adventures in Crete neglected to do this. The father, Aegeus in great distress , mistakenly believing his son to be dead , drowned himself in the sea. The sea thereafter was called the Aegean sea.

In Greek mythology Poseidon is Hera’s younger brother. Here is how he fitted into the family:

Cronus and Rhea had three daughters

Hestia, Demeter, Hera

and then three boys

Hades, Poseidon, and Zeus.

Poseidon is the god of the sea and water, as well as horses and earthquakes. He is among the most bad-tempered of all the gods, reflecting the unpredictable and often dangerous nature of the sea.
