Pylos Greece

Oh, the depths of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgements, and His ways past finding out!

Romans 11 : 33 (Paul’s letter to the Romans)

The city of Pylos is at the foot of a promontory which extends to Mount Aghios Nikolas on which there is a fortress.

Far in the distance is our park up for the night.
A line of us travellers.
Right on the sea wall
no barrier between the vehicle and the sea.

This is the most protected port in the Peloponnese peninsula as the narrow island of Sphacteria is a natural breakwater for Navarino Bay.
Another way of saying it, is that the Bay is the safest place to anchor a boat on the Ionian coast. So logic says we are parked safely!?

In the foreground is the start of the main square.
Looking down towards the square a tree provides a meeting place for people enjoying the morning until the wind started with a little rain.

Pylos was the scene where the Spartans were defeated by the Athenians 425 BC. Here is something two Athenians said:

Love is composed of a single soul with two bodies.

Aristotle

What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others.

Pericles.

The current inhabitants of Pylos were shopping for food after a long weekend.

Between the sea and the wall supporting the road to the fortress.
Wild flowers in the evening sun.
The fortress was closed.

These passion fruit flowers were great to see. As a child when the fruit was crinkly we sisters would bite off the top and suck out the rich yellow strings , juice and black pips. All of it. It was delicious. And yes they grew any where there was a little support just like these on iron bars.

The wind has come up! We have a week of unsettled weather ahead. Take care.
