German autobahn driving and Ulm

Those who get wisdom love life… ( her/his soul). Those who keep understanding will find good.

Proverbs 19: 8

Cathy Dobson said when talking about the German Autobahn:” The left- hand lane is exclusively for the use of Porsches, BMWs, and Mercedes. Dark coloured vehicles only, please. If you’re driving a white or silver car, please stick to the middle lane and moderate your speed.”

Yes there is no speed limit you can go as fast as you like or as fast as your car can go. I drove for an hour going in and out of the slow lane to pass many trucks after which my stamina was spent. Roy fortunately had a lot to give. A whole day of driving.

It was then some country roads through vast cultivated lands to reach Ulm on the Danube.

Looking at wide expanses of ploughed lands on either side of the road.
Two chairs with their shadows . Padlocks locked to the fence.
May their love be locked in with the wish they made.
A view of Ulm from the Danube.

The Church is Ulm Minster with the tallest steeple in the world 161.53 m. Let us cross the Danube and see some architecture. Ancient and very modern.

A glass pyramid library and a town hall with an early Renaissance facade and a 16th century astronomical clock all in the shade.
Press on the picture to see the clock more clearly.

Then into the square where the church is. People are sitting here and there enjoying the sun. There is no reason for why the chairs are scattered other than the best rays of the sun.

A fountain on the left has two tall lions standing on their hind legs back to back. A unique sight.
The fountain from the 17th century was placed in the square in 1914.

The earliest written mention of Ulm is dated 22 July 854 AD when King Louis of the Germans signed a document in the King’s Palace of “Hulma”.

Ulm is the birth place of Albert Einstein. Born here in 1879 and died in America in 1955. Einsteinium, a synthetic element in the periodic table, is named after him.

Here are some things he said . I have placed them with some pictures of his town.

Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow. The important thing is not to stop questioning.

Look at the overhang on the modern building on the left.

If you can’t explain it simply, you don’t understand it well enough.

We can’t solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them. (I guess that is why we need good friends or help from others. Sandy)

Looking down the Danube from the bridge going into town.

Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new.

A little shoe shopping.
Look at those pinks and greens.
Warm weather will come !
Life is like a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving.
Albert Einstein.

Here is a German quote: ” The person who smiles rather than rages is always the stronger one.”

And

“Morning hour has gold in its mouth.”

Keep smiling.

Sandy. 🙂
