Viburnum farreri twigs revisited after a year.

We have to understand that we are going to die, so we can be wise.

Psalm 90: 12 (Sandy’s understanding.)

3 Cyclamen leaves (centre)
and a tulip tree twig. (far right)
In the background giving height some seed heads with their triangular patterns and lined stems.

Last year in my post viburnum farreri twigs in December bloom I showed blooms covering knarled wood. This year the buds are brown and shrivelled with only a few flowers. The timing of our two weeks of freezing weather was bad! It seems to have destroyed the chances for both shrubs this year.

The timing of death, like the ending of a story, gives a changed meaning to what preceeded it. ( I appreciated last year’s post more.)

Mary Catherin Bateson

Mary C. Batesman 1939 – 2021 was an American writer and Anthropologist . Her book published in 1989 “Composing a life” is in short an examination of the stop- start nature of women’s lives and their adaptive responses- in her words “life as an improvisatory art”.

Sometimes being a friend means mastering the art of timing. There is a time for silence. A time to let go and allow people to hurl themselves into their own destiny. And a time to prepare to pick up the pieces when it is all over.

Octavia E Butler (1947-2006 American Science Fiction author and multiple recipient of the Hugo and Nebula awards.)
Timing has a lot to do with art”.
LL CoolJ (American rapper)

” There is one kind of robber whom the law does not strike at, and who steals what is most precious to men : time .”
Napoleon 1.(1769-1821Frech military commander)

Then David A. Bednar said: ” The object of our prayers should not be to present a wish list or a series of requests but to secure for ourselves and for others blessings that God is eager to bestow, according to His will and timing.”

I leave this thought from W. Marshall for myself ‘ think of your priorities not in terms of what activities you do, but when you do them. Timing is everything.’

  1. Yes, timing is off the essence so often; not easy to cope with sometimes. Hope your plant will still bloom…
