When I researched the 1710 -1790 Thomas Fuller. I appreciated this story so much I was happy to follow this road and leave the quote where it belonged a memory.🤣

Thomas was known as the Human Calculator. He was bought with 16 other Slaves. His owners wouldn’t sell him because of his great ability and he said he was thankful for that. At the age of 70 after many years of working on the land some people came to see for themselves how agile he was with numbers. Amongst other questions they asked was this one :

” How many seconds are there in the life of a man who has lived 70 years, 17 days and 12 hours ?” There was someone working it out on paper. They came up with different answers.

Thomas answered in one and half minutes 2,210,500,800.

When he was challenged he said: “Have you remembered the leap years? ”

He was correct.

Once Thomas was told that it was a shame that he hadn’t had an education equal to his great intellect and his reply was sharp.

” No, Massa, it is best I had no learning for many learned men be great fools.” Well said Thomas! (Sandy)
