Genoa/Genova Italy

Don’t worry about tomorrow. Tomorrow will look after itself. Today has enough trouble.

Don’t judge others because they will use the same against you.

Matthew 6: 34 Matthew 7:1,2 ( Sandy’s understanding)

A port city capital of northwest Italy’s Liguria region. A city well known for its maritime trade from the 11th to 18th Century.

I hope you can spot the sea. This is looking from the hills in the modern section. The let’s go down close to the sea …

The historical centre is one of the largest and most densely populated in Europe. Roy very rarely says ” I think we need to head for a square”. Even he felt a bit lost. Look how tall and close the buildings are.

Out of the historical city and opposite the opera house is
Piazza de Ferrari
with an iconic bronze fountain.

The bank of Saint George was founded here in 1407.
The oldest known state deposit bank in the world.
Petrarch nicknamed the city
“the proud one” ( la Superba).
Its money came from the shipyards and steelworks.
A university city with motorbikes parked in large numbers.

A Friday market filled with produce carefully grown, picked, cleaned and displayed in colour and type perfect to look at. I wish I knew all the names. Perhaps you know them.

Some important people were born here besides Christopher Columbus. To the music world the most important is Niccolo Paganini. He was born here in 1782. He is the most celebrated violin virtuoso of his time. An Italian violinist and composer who we say thank you to for leaving scores and now read and played by people like Maria Duenas. He lives on in the expressive playing of this young Spanish violinist born in 2002 when he died in 1840. This is the miracle and true beauty of art. To listen to this special music press on the following:

Niccolo Paganini Violin Concerto No1. played by Maria Duenas. as you can see we will probably be leaving Italy soon.

I hope you enjoyed the energy and vibrance of this young woman as she played something thought of so long ago. Be blessed.

Sandy 🙂
