Olive leaves with Zinias

David says “I am a green olive tree in the house of God : I trust in the mercy of God for ever and ever.” (This verse is very interesting in its context.)

Psalm 52:8
A bucket of olive leaf branches…

Humility has such power

Apologies can disarm arguments

Contrition can defuse rage

Olive branches do more good than battle axes ever will.

…from a very small tree…

Olive trees don’t need much in terms of nutrition as they thrive in poor stony soil. They are evergreen and their wood is very hard and beautifully grained. If cut down it shoots from its roots. Some trees are estimated to be 1,000 years old. Our tree is at least seven years old and a topping of fertiliser once a year keeps it healthy.

A dove returns an olive branch to Noah when he was still locked in the ark. (Genesis 8:11)

The Hebrew for olive tree is ‘es shemen’, (tree of oil) it is related to the word ‘shemesh’, (to be brilliant) which is also the Hebrew for the sun.

Traditionally as early as the 5th century the Greeks saw the tree as a symbol of peace.

Oriental people regard the olive tree as a symbol of beauty , strength, divine blessing and prosperity.

    1. Ah , yes mine came from my Mum being given some old silver cutlery and this little tortoise in a wooden box while private nursing a dear old lady . Mum then kept it on her dressing table and I used to play with it, hooking off the tail. When mum passed Shelly brought it to me. A treasure.

  1. Olives. – yum. Interesting post. “Olive branches do more good than battle axes ever will. I must remember that one… Love the bucket 🌸
