Chenies, a Manor House in Buckinghamshire as seen from the white garden. This home is a Tudor grade 1 listed building started in 1460 . It has been owned by the Macleod Matthews family since 1956. The house and gardens are still enjoyed by the family but open to the public on certain days in the summer.
Notice that all the windows on the side facing London ( about 30 miles away) have been bricked in. A doctor staying at Chenies at the start of the Black death advised this because he didn’t want the Black death to be carried on the wind through the windows.
The chimneys, tall and stately, above the roof were admired by King Henry viii who got the same builder to do him some at Hampton Court London. (the home of Henry viii )

The lounge
One bedroom has a display of dolls .
The house is often used for filming and this desk was used in Poirot ( 1989 – 2013) “The incredible theft” .
Off one of the bedrooms is a priest hole. It was bricked up but found by sounding hollow when the wall was tapped. The house was lived in by Protestants at that time but rented by a Catholic family
and this was built as a hiding place for their priest. The builder of this priest hole and at least one other like it was put to death for not revealing where he had built them.
