The fall of a cardoon.

One section of a Cardoon fell with the heat yesterday so  I took off some of its weight. These few buds and flowers are what I took off.  I then gave it some water last night and the remaining  stem has lifted a little helping to raise the remaining flowers off the ground in the garden.

The cardoon is a close relation to the Globe Artichoke and can also be eaten. It is the stalk of the cardoon that you eat rather than the flower head. I tried! It was horrid! The small green bits were so stringy they just wouldn’t cook well even after quite a while.  Maybe you know better ?😊

Popeswood meadow

The ring of grass and brambles round each tree.
Notice the bales of hay.
Popeswood pond.
Popeswood meadow at about 10am today after yesterday’s heat wave. Last week they cut the grass and baled it.  The oak trees each have  a ring of grass left around them for the wildlife while the pond seems covered in a thick green weed.
All the ducks seemed happy enough.
