Girona day 2: more flowers and some locally prepared food

You nourish your emotional life when you are kind, you destroy it when you are cruel.

Proverbs 11 : 17 (Sandy’s use of emotional life instead of soul)

The walk in to see Girona for the second time was most impressive because of the trees. Here is a quote about how they make one feel:

I took a walk in the woods and came out taller than trees.

Henry David Thoreao
The river Onyar taken through the bars of the narrow pedestrian bridge with the warm welcoming colours of the city now but it was once an old Roman city. The city at that time was known as the city of a thousand sieges. Below are some Roman quotes as we think of those times when this city had a Roman wall all around it.

Nothing has such power to broaden the mind as the ability to investigate systematically and fully all that comes under thy observation in life.

You have power over your mind – not outside events. Realise this, and you will find strength.

Look back over the past, with its changing empires that rose  and fell, and you can see the future, too.

These are the wise words of Marcus Aurelius ( born 121AD died 180AD. He was the last of the 5 good emperors of  the Pax Romana. During their time there was relative peace and stability. After the Romans we have had no world power.)

The  river Onyar separates the Old City, with the largest and best preserved 13th century Jewish quarters, from the modern neighbourhoods.  In 1492 any Jew not  agreeing to convert to Catholicism was expelled from the country.

A globe of happiness

The splendor of the rose and the whiteness of the lily do not rob the little violet of its scent nor the daisy of its simple charm. If every tiny flower wanted to be a rose, spring would lose its loveliness.

Therese of Lisieux
Gerbera daisies each in their own little flask of water.

Even stones decay but words endure.

Samoan quote
In the coolest of stone vaults were these hearts made from tulips.
Pots of green and blue Hydrangeas with purple bell flower. The grass looks like pampas but I can’t be sure. A gigantic display.
The well worn stairway leading to Basilica de Saint Feliu – Escalinata nord has carefully arranged pot plants right to the door. The neat cobbles add to the texture.

Food

Laughter is brightest where food is best.
