Lesser Celandine (Ficaria verna)

So, if they say to you, ‘ Look, he is in the wilderness,’ do not go out. If they say, Look , he is in the inner rooms,’ do not believe it. For as the lightning comes from the east and shines as far as the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.

Matthew 24:26,27
Celandine comes from the Greek “chelidon” meaning swallow and it traditionally blooms on 21 February making it one of the first woodland flowers of the year.
This also gave the lesser celandine the name spring messenger.
Lesser celandine has 8 petals and belongs to the buttercup family.
Greater celandine belongs to the poppy family and has 4 petals.
The early pollinating insects appreciate its pollen and nectar. As a British native, celandine grows in woods, hedgerows and on the banks of streams.
Flowers of glossy butter coloured petals with long stalks and green heart-shaped leaves.
The Victorians used celandine to symbolise
” Joys to come.”

Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced : and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of Him. Even so, Amen. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is , and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.

Revelations 1:7
