Grass in a vase

The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever.

Isaiah 40 : 8
A summer scene of waving grass against muted sea and muted blue English sky.
A vase of six delicate stems of grass. Pale arches on a paler background.
All pale!
As beautiful as the arches in any of the Cathedrals as seen in France.

Bromus arvensis. Arvensis is Latin for “of cultivated land”. It is field brome. It grows along roadsides, in disturbed areas and in fields. It has an extensive root system.

Be tough in the way a blade of grass is: rooted, willing to lean, and at peace with what is around it.

Natalie Goldberg
Smooth brome has an important role. It is central to the control of soil erosion.
It is also widely used to rehabilitate land used for grazing or hunting animals.

Every blade of grass is a study; and to produce two, where there was but one, is both a profit and a pleasure.

Abraham Lincoln

The only way in which we can gain more perfect aprehension of truth is by keeping the heart tender and subdued by the Spirit of Christ. The soul must be cleansed from vanity and pride and vacated of all that has held it in possession, and Christ must be enthroned within. Human science is too limited to comprehend the atonement. The plan of redemption is so far reaching that philosophy cannot explain it. It will ever remain a mystery that the most professed reasoning cannot fathom. The science of salvation cannot be explained : but it can be known by experience. Only he who sees his own sinfulness can discern the preciousness of the Saviour.
