Just in from the cold. Last night there was a heavy frost and this Sweet-coltsfoot winter heliopter has water dripping off its horse hoof like leaves. Hence the name Sweet-coltsfoot.Two hours later it is looking happier. This species is dioecious ( male and female flowers being on separate plants) It is native to Italy, Sicily, Sardinia and North Africa. In 1806 it was introduced into Britain and by 1835 it was recorded in the wild in Middlesex. This plant is considered to be invasive as its deep underground rhizomes allow it to spread. The male plant is grown as an ornamental plant in gardens and church yards. It is also commonly seen on shady roadside banks. This is where I saw mine while walking Bess.These clusters of white pinkish purple flowers appear in December. They bloom at the tip of a fleshy stem with scale leaves and have a vanilla scent. They are replaced by silvery – white seed heads later in spring.A bud vase of marble / stone? What is interesting to me is the veining some of which is quite delicate. I don’t remember if I bought it in Italy / Greece / from my favourite second hand shop but I like it .🙂The next morning . This plant is definitely not a cut flower vase type. It is so sad as it has such special suborbicular / coltsfoot leaves with finely serrated edges!😒

The sinful habits natural to man are interwoven with the daily practice. But the Word cuts away the fleshly lusts. It is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the mind . It divides the joint and the marrow, cutting away the lusts of the flesh, making men and women suffer for their Lord.

I’ve heard of coltsfoot but never seen it. You remind me of Mom – she often arranged flowers in a vase she knew would only last a day, and why not? They give pleasure for the day 🥰.
