These few stalks of Heather lost many of their little buds as I worked with them. They are in a boot vase which was given to my mother as a florist gift on the day I was born. It is a link with that day and I am so pleased my mother kept it for me. As a child I would put geranium flowers in it. A pot of Heather in the house must be kept moist otherwise it dies. If it dries out it will keep its colour and be a “dry arrangement”🙂 but it will never revive.Heather flowers commonly mean good luck, admiration, and protection. Various cultivars come in white, pink, purple, red. There are varieties for Summer / Autumn / Winter / Spring. They are great for a low maintenance garden.

A few negatives from 1945. Peering into a world 12 years before my husband was born. My father in law once told me while we were working together in his garden and I was planting Heather that this was the name mum wanted for a girl if ever they had one. These negatives were taken by him before he knew: who he would marry, how many children he would have, and how they would choose to live, marry, have him grandchildren and great grand children. A wonderful experience to look into these and try to understand what he wanted to say through them. His story of where he was.
