The delicate flowers and shiny green leaves of Laurestine with Grey Santolina / cotton lavender in a round vase. Laurestine with its shiny leaves is an evergreen shrub which can grow to the height of 6 to 10 feet. It flowers from late autumn to the start of summer. This plant can grow in sun or shade and easily roots from cuttings taken at the end of summer. Laurestine can be grown in a pot but needs to be watered as soon as the surface soil dries. The aromatic silver grey cotton lavender from the garden was cut today because it has become straggly. In the hot summer of 2018 it grew rapidly to 2ft but this summer with all the rain it hasn’t looked good. It can grow in loam or even clay as long as there is good drainage. Its best growing conditions are areas of sandy infertile soil. Cotton lavender grows into a mound and in late summer has yellow button like flowers. It is often used as an edging. The vase is from Ireland, Galway. It is a good weight and its shape holds the wispy cotton lavender well. Notice the Laurestine flowers seem to be older with their anthers showing brown flecks. The network of veins on the Laurestine leaf is like small cracks with no definite pattern. A joy to look at.
