Hyacinth roots and bark from two ancient oaks 14 Dec 2021

“It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.”

Jesus speaking to Satan. Matthew 4: 4
Growing hyacinth bulbs in water. The vase in the middle is a hyacinth vase/forcing vase for growing these bulbs this way. It is well shaped with enough room for the roots and water as well as
anchorage for the bulb. The bulb itself must not touch the water, the roots grow down into the water. Two of the pink bulbs had a head start as I only decided to do the rest later.
A hyacinth vase.
The hyacinth bulb showing the start of new green leaves. The three bulbs with few roots will go back into the garage the other three will be in the kitchen.

Oak tree and bark

This ancient oak tree one of two standing beside each other is in Popeswood Meadow. It and its partner are a reminder of a poet who lived in this area in the 17th century by the name of Alexander Pope. Who knows if the two trees started out as acorns or sapling at that time.

Some bark from this ancient Oak and some quotes about learning and education from this great writer and poet.

“No one should be ashamed to admit they are wrong,

which is but saying , in other words,

that they are wiser today

than they were yesterday.”

“The education forms the common mind; just as the twig is bent the tree’s inclined.”

“One Science only will Genius fit;

So vast is Art

so narrow human wit.”

“A little learning is a dangerous thing, drink deep or taste not the Pierian Spring.”

Alexander Pope
The tree that stands beside the one in the last photograph.
…some bark from it and a few wise words too.

“Fools rush in where angels fear to tread.”

“To err is human
to forgive divine. “

“Love free as air at sight of human ties, spreads his light wings, and in a moment flies. “

“Charms strike the sight,
but merit wins the soul.”

Alexander Pope
A relatively young , significant oak tree. It is full of potential and growing into its natural shape with plenty of room around it. This tree is still in its autumnal glory the second week in December.

…for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and Him only shalt thou serve.

Jesus tells Satan to go away. Matthew 4: 10

    1. Hi Kelly. I took a paracetamol and have just woken up feeling fine but with two arms a little painful. I chose to have the flu jab as well. I am taking it easy today. Will probably be in contact again on Saturday evening after posting now. Thank you so much for thinking of us.πŸ€—

  1. So glad you’ve kept up with your vaccinations.
That hyacinth set up is going to be gorgeous! And the oak tree is lovely.
