Floating in water

He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.

Psalm 91: 4
A bouquet of roses growing on one stem. Notice that they are all at different stages. From tightly closed buds to one rose completely open with a partial view of the stamens.
I cut this stem of roses and as I did the petals of the open one fell into my hands. I knew I wanted the petals in the grouping for you so I filled a bowl with water and placed a shallow layer of white pebbles in the bottom. You will see the beautiful brown and yellow stamens alone on a stem yet surrounded by petals. When I placed the next rose in connected to two beautiful buds half the petals came off and floated in the water surrounding the opening two buds and closed buds. The group was all together. From the garden to the water.
My Mother would often compare our stages in life with a rose. I distinctly remember her saying as we looked at our roses in our rose garden: “You are like that beautiful bud starting to open and I am like this rose fully open.” A sweet and touching moment remembered now with love. Mum is no longer with us and I feel very much like the rose whose petals have partially joined hers floating around the other lovely roses. One could say my beautiful grand daughter and equally beautiful daughter-in-law may be represented there too. The water has a way of supporting all ages and stages in a similar but not as vital way as the roses growing on one stem in the garden.
A few generations. May my mother’s love continue.

  1. Oh I remember Mommy saying that! 🥰. Yellow roses are my favourites. Thank you for that wonderful promise from the Bible too.
